I know how you feel. I receive hundreds of emails each week with different yet similar stories. I tried to create a forum to help vent your thoughts but I feel many do not want to spend the time to register ... I encourage you to do so. For those of you who simply want to voice your situation anonymously, this is it!:)

About two years ago I had 15 fillings placed in my mouth. The dentist that did them did not tell me there was mercury in them. I am alergic to mercury. Sence I got them I have not been able to work. I have been very sick. I can't remember things and I have no energy to be the mom that I wanted to be. I really need them replaced, I'd even be happy just pulling them out and getting dentures. SCREEN NAME: mibj I am 36 and I would love to be able to eat something other than the softest food I can find due to long over due rotting teeth that are chipping away and are now at their roots and have gotten null help from my state agency's... I hurt so bad please help. I had a job and the moment I got my insurance cards they let me go but they also did the same to hundreds of other employees while I was there. I may have to rely on baby food soon and desperately need help from anyone that will help with their heart and forget about their wallet to help out those whom are jobless. I am tired of crying and would like to smile again. | |

| DATE: 11/16/2009 2:32:39 PM ... SCREEN NAME: Shlay I am a 22 year old college student that has not been to the dentist on a regular visit for about 13 years. My family lost dental insurance when I was around 9 and that was my last regular visit. My last dental visit was to take care of an infected tooth by getting it pulled. It is very embarrassing that at the age of 22 I am unable to smile and fearful of laughing. At first people see me as shy or even not friendly because I don't want to show my teeth. My friends have pointed out how I always cover my month when talking, or look away or down. My teeth bring down my self confidence to an extreme low. So many people have said that I need to smile more and it is truly embarrassing that people say that to me. Halloween this year I wanted to wear a mask, after buying it and being stuck with it I dreaded it. The whole night I tried to keep my month shut for the mask covered the rest of my face and made my teeth an open target. My last name has never helped me out in the matter- many people pronounce it ‘tooth’ and then I have to correct them, it just makes me think everyone looks at my teeth and thinks ‘poor girl’. I’m fearful that my future depends on my teeth more than people are willing to think. My biggest fear is ending up alone – my teeth prevent me from getting out and meeting people. Guys have approached me to talk and such and then end it when they realize my teeth or because I am being short in hope that they don’t realize my teeth. I am missing a few teeth in the back and I have a half rotted tooth in the front of my month. I also have a few half teeth as I call them that are rotting away. I brush my teeth all the time due to the rotten so that my breath doesn’t smell as bad and so the nasty rotten taste goes away. With being in school I don’t have money to fix my teeth. I would love to show the world when I am happy and laugh when I find something funny - I would love to know what I look like smiling and how I sound when I laugh for real. I would love for my real personality to show but am too fearful of people judging me on my teeth. | |
